UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program

Applications are now open for the UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program, providing undergraduate students the opportunity to address health disparities and explore public health through hands-on training, workshops, and leadership and professional development.

Program Overview
  • 8-week summer training program (June 24 - August 17, 2018)
  • Internships with a partner organization in Los Angeles
  • $3,000 stipend, housing, some meals, and a metro pass
  • Trip provided by the program to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA with Public Health Scholars from other programs across the nation
Program Eligibility Criteria
  • Interest in exploring a career in Public Health
  • By the start of the program, scholars must 1) be enrolled in a 4-year institution and completed at least 2 years of undergraduate education OR 2) graduated Spring 2017 or later and have not been accepted into a graduate program
  • No GPA requirement

National American Mock World Health Organization Conference - April 2018

The American Mock World Health Organization (AMWHO) is a student-run organization whose goal is to introduce prospective public health students and professionals into the organization and setup of the World Health Organization. It was founded at the University of North Carolina and continues to grow each year to other universities.

Each year, AMWHO hosts a weekend long conference where students are invited to debate health policy, engage with other students, and meet other professionals involved in the field of global public health.

Health Career Connection (HCC) Summer 2018 Internship Program


Program Description

  1. This internship program is a paid full-time 10-week internship placement in a partner organization. Interns work under the direction of a preceptor and work on meaningful projects that are educational and benefit the organization and its community.
  2. Interns can gain exposure, hands-on experience, and mentorship in a variety of settings in health care/public health.
  3. The Internship stipend ranges between $3,000 and $4,000
  4. Workshops on key professional and personal development topics including leadership, advocacy, cultural competence, life and career planning and graduate education preparation will be held.
  5. Opportunities for community building and networking with peers, professionals, and alumni are available.
  6. Partner schools include- School of Public Health at: UC Berkeley, UCLA, Harvard University, Columbia University, UNC Chapel Hill, UC Riverside, CSU Fresno and Schools of Medicine at: UCSF PRIME, UCLA PRIME, Stanford University and Wake Forest.

Eligibility
  1. Candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or have recently graduated from an undergraduate institution.
  2. Recent graduates must have completed their degree within the last three years.
  3. Candidates who are enrolled in a post-baccalaureate are eligible to apply.
  4. Graduate students are not eligible to apply.

Health Professions Week is a week-long event for college students interested in learning about careers in the health professions. It’s completely FREE of charge! Students who participate will have to opportunity to explore over 20 diverse, rewarding professions including:

Unite for Sight Global Health Leadership Internship

The Global Health Leadership Internship Provides outstanding undergraduate, public health, medical and clinical students, as well as recent graduates, with an opportunity to engage in high impact front-line global health delivery programs. This internship has a minimum of a full-time 4 week commitment, but at least an 8-10 week commitment if preferable. A minimum of a 6-week commitment is required during the summer months. The internship opportunity is available year-round.


In this position, the intern works closely with Unite for Sight's Core Management Team on global health programming. Interns work from the New Haven, CT office that overlooks the Yale University campus.

Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Apply organizational and writing skills to the development and implementation of global health initiatives
  • Develop advocacy and educational resources
  • Assist with training programs
  • Contribute to cutting-edge programs in development
Qualifications and requirements include:
  • Strong initiative and motivation
  • Passionate interest in global health
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Detail-oriented work style
  • Proficient in multi-tasking
  • International experience is a plus
  • Other types of interests and skill sets are also welcomed, including: 
    • Statistical analysis
    • Graphic design
    • Film editing and production

Public Health Student Internship Program

The HHS/Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is interested in recruiting students like you for internship opportunities as part of their Public Health Student Internship Program (PHSIP)! 

HRSA’s mission is to “improve health care access and quality, promote best practices, and eliminate health disparities.  HRSA programs serve everyone from infants to the elderly, to assure that people in the U.S. have access to a broad range of essential personal and public health services. With more than 3,000 grantees, HRSA supports hands-on health care, clinician training, research and more.”  HRSA is located in Rockville, MD less than a mile away from Twinbrook Metro station (Red Line).  Click here to learn more about HRSA.  

Internship Details:

The PHSIP is an unpaid internship opportunity that serves to provide career exploration in the federal government, shadowing, valuable experience, and academic credit-as approved by the academic institution to students across a variety of disciplines.  Internship terms are flexible and can vary depending on the needs of the academic institution and the intern.  The PHSIP operates on a rolling and continuous basis, and internships can start/end throughout the year.  There is no application deadline.  Each intern will be assigned to a preceptor for supervision and mentoring purposes.  Interns must be currently enrolled students.  Please visit this site for more information about HRSA’s Public Health Student Internship Program (PHSIP)

The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health will be hosting a This Is Public Health Graduate School Fair on July 19, in Washington, DC. The fair will run from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. Students are able to meet with representatives from ASPPH, This Is Public Health, SOPHAS, and over 30 schools and programs of public health.



This will be one of many fairs throughout the summer and fall including virtual fairs. SOPHAS will be hosting a virtual fair on July 11.

Steel City Health Careers Diversity Conference

The University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences will host the “Steel City Health Careers Diversity Conference,” a day and a half exposure to the Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.  The program features a screening of the film “Changing the Face of Medicine” with remarks by filmmaker Crystal Emery, admissions rep and student panels, an information fair with hands-on activities and informational workshops.  The program is free of charge.  Motor coach transportation will be provided from suburban Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Baltimore.

Schools featured include: School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine, Graduate School of Public Health, and School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (which includes PT, OT and more!)

Peer Health Educators are a group of about 45 students seeking to educate members of the UVA community on the topics of mental wellness, nutrition, sexual health, and alcohol/drug use. We primarily act through outreach presentations, one-on-one peer education appointments, and a variety of health-related events like the Fourth Year 5k.
