Local Optometry Office: Part Time Employment Opportunity

Drs. Bare, Basic, & Rohm Optometrists, adjacent to UVA in the Barracks Road Shopping Center, is seeking a part-time employee(s) to work as an optometric technician / administrative assistant.

Main tasks

• Greet patients
• Check patients in
• Complete a pre-test battery using several machines in the office
• Begin patient history
• Answer the phone
• Collect payments 

Time commitment

• Saturday's, 9am - 4pm, beginning in July 
• Preference given to students who can work during breaks 

The person currently in this role is a UVA student who is graduating and continuing to optometry school in the fall.

Internship Program at SUNY Optometry

Interested in learning about the optometry profession? 

New York State residents who are full time college students and identify as historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged are eligible for the State University of New York College of Optometry CSTEP Programs:

• Spring Internships Monday, June 4 - Friday, June 15. This is an exploratory program, designed to let students shadow in the clinics, visit private practices, go through professional school readiness workshops, network with students and faculty, and do a research presentation.
  
• Summer Academic Program  Every Tuesday, May 29 - July 24. Students take introductory optometry curriculum courses with renowned faculty, for 2 elective credits, possibly transferable to the students' college institution. They also shadow one day in the clinic.

Ohio State I-DOC Summer Program

July 22 - 25, 2018

The 12th Annual Improving Diversity in Optometric Careers (I-DOC) program
is an intensive three-day residential program that introduces participants
to the profession of optometry.

The goal of the programs is to attract ethnically underrepresented minority
undergraduate college students to careers in optometry and increase
the number of underrepresented students who enter optometry schools at
Ohio State and across the nation. 

Financial assistance provided for participants covering all meals,
on-campus housing, activities, and airfare up to $500 for those traveling to Columbus.

Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) Deadline Approaching!

Overview

The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a FREE, 6-week career enrichment program for pre-health students. The SHPEP summer program is offered at 13 colleges and institutions across the country. The SHPEP application deadline is February 15th. Submit your SHPEP applications here. Health Professions Week 2017

Health Professions Week 2017

November 6 – 10, 2017

Health Professions Week is a week-long event for college students interested in learning about careers in the health professions. It’s completely FREE of charge! Students who participate will have to opportunity to explore over 20 diverse, rewarding professions including:

• anesthesiologist assistant
• dental professions
• health administration
• medicine
• and many more!

In addition, throughout the week there is a great lineup of events. The itinerary is as follows:
