UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine Pipeline Programs


 Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Enrichment Program (PREP):
UCLA PREP is a non-residential program designed to provide pre-medical and pre-dental students from disadvantaged backgrounds with a means of strengthening their ability and readiness to study medicine or dentistry. As a result of full participation in UCLA PREP, participants should enhance their changes of being accepted to medical or dental school and succeed once there. Online applications open January 3rd, deadline is March 1st.

Re-Application Program (RAP):
UCLA RAP offers a comprehensive, structured re-application program designed to assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have been unsuccessful in gaining admission to any U.S. medical school. RAP is an 11-month program that is conducted in two sessions. The summer session will be June 19 - July 21 and the academic year session will run from August through May. UCLA RAP is a member of the University of California Postbaccalaureate Consortium. Application opens January 2nd.

Vanderbilt Undergraduate Clinical Research Internship Program

The Vanderbilt Undergraduate Clinical Research Internship Program (UCRIP) is a summer program that allows undergraduate students interested in careers in medicine the opportunity to spend 8-10 weeks at Vanderbilt conducting research and observing clinical patient care at an academic medical center. Students may pursue basic science, clinical, or translational research projects. In addition to participating in research, participants benefit from clinical observation opportunities which allows students to gain an understanding of how academic medicine teams function and start to gain some foundational knowledge about body systems and disease processes.

Stipend: $1500

EVMS 2017 Summer Scholars Program


Monday, May 22 - Thursday, August 3

The Summer Scholars Program is a competitive summer research internship to work with an EVMS faculty member for 11 weeks on one of their current research projects. Although this program is offered by the EVMS Department of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD), previous experience in Pediatrics is not required for any of our projects.

Four basic areas of research:
  1. Pre-Clinical / Laboratory: These projects are offered by medical school faculty members and require prior laboratory experience and knowledge of basic laboratory procedures. Many of these projects will also require additional training (provided by the program) for working with animal tissue.
  2. Clinical Medicine Research: These projects are offered by hospital physicians and may involve chart review or patient / parent interviews in topics such as childhood obesity, autism, allergies, child psychiatry, and other child health related fields.  
  3. Health Behavior / Psychology or Public / Community Health Research: Projects in these two categories are offered by hospital physicians or other faculty members. These projects may involve chart review, patient/parent interviews, or behavior observation in topics such as autism, environmental hazards, disease prevention, health policy, or wellness promotion.
  4. Educational Research: These projects are offered by hospital physicians or other faculty members and may involve systematic literature review, curriculum development or change, or educational program evaluation. 
Eligible candidates:
  • Undergraduates: students entering their 4th year for the fall 2017 term, or students completing their 4th year before May 22, 2017. 
  • Graduate or Medical Students: students entering their first or second year of graduate or medical school for the fall 2017 term. 
  • Other: students who have completed their senior undergraduate year (or post-baccalaureate courses) and are preparing to apply to graduate or medical school in the near future. 
Time Commitment:
Students must be available full-time (at least 40 hours per week) for the entire program. No exceptions. There are usually no program obligations during weekends.

Housing: Out-of-town students are responsible for their own housing, although the program will provide rental leads from EVMS medical students who are willing to lease or share their apartments during the program. Out-of-town students will be eligible to apply for an additional $1,000 to help cover housing costs.

Stipend: $2,000

MI State Summer Research Program - BRUSH

The Biomedical Research for University Students in Health Sciences (BRUSH) program at Michigan State University is a Summer Research Program for students from populations underrepresented in biomedical research. The BRUSH Program is suitable for students interested in biomedical research, and it is also valuable for students interested in human or veterinary medicine.

During the 12-week BRUSH Program, students conduct research under the guidance of a faculty mentor and also participate in ancillary activities to help them explore research as a career and succeed in the conduct and presentation of their research. The program is best suited for students who have completed their 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate studies, although applicants with less college credit will be considered.

Students in this program are paid $4,800 for the summer, and additional funds are available to cover the cost of program related expenses (housing and conference travel).

Health & Wellbeing Minor

What is a health and wellbeing minor?
"Understood as more than the absence of disease, the concept of health and wellbeing combines elements of genetic, biological, psychological, behavioral and social practices and processes.  In this one-of-a-kind minor, students are introduced to health and wellbeing through this wide spectrum of topics.

The courses in this program are designed to assist students in obtaining the scientific knowledge related to health and wellbeing to promote intelligent decision-making. It also amplifies the curriculum for students who wish to work in the health or mental health professions, or hope to be engaged in public policy related to health and well-being."
Students enrolled in the minor will have access to classes in the Curry School of Education, the College, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Architecture, and the Batten School of Leadership & Public Policy. Course topics include:
  • Nutrition
  • Exercise
  • Mindfulness
  • Healthy environment
  • Psychology
  • Public Health Policy
  • More!
Applications for admission into the minor are due on December 6. Applicants accepted into the minor will be notifed January 6, 2017.

Ohio State University SUCCESS Summer Research Program

The SUCCESS Program enables students to participate in a 10-week research experience hosted by the OSU Medical Scientist (MD-PhD) Training Program. Students will receive a stipend and housing, and will be provided an allowance for travel to and from Columbus. While taking part in this program, students will take valuable professional development courses and learn from engaged mentors, all while working in state-of-the-art research facilities. The program includes:

UVA Global Health Case Competition - 12/6 Deadline

Come to the UVA Center for Global Health's annual Global Health Case Competition! 


The UVA intramural global health case competition is an event designed to prompt undergraduate and graduate students within our university to recognized their unique individual potentials for contributing to the needs of global health and become empowered to address these needs in their future careers. A global health case is delivered to interdisciplinary teams of students who then have 4-5 days to craft a solution they will present during a day-long competition. The winning team, determined by a multidisciplinary panel of judges, is awarded the opportunity to represent UVA at the Emory international global health case competition.
