Research Assistant position at Walter Reed Medical Center
Lab Principal Investigator: Paul F. Pasquina, MD

The position is an ideal opportunity for graduates who would like to gain practical experience as a researcher in a medical setting and are planning to take 2 years off before matriculating to medical or graduate school. The Research Assistant will oversee studies ranging from phantom limb pain and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to prosthetic device evaluation.  They will also have the possibility of exploring other areas of clinical research, especially those related to amputees.
Candidates for this position will manage the daily activities of the clinical research study and collect, maintain, and organize study information. Candidates may also carry out the following duties in support of the clinical research studies:

*Recruit individuals for clinical studies.
*Obtain informed consent as a study investigator.
*Screen for eligibility and administer questionnaires and study assessments.
*Collect and record study data obtained from research subjects. Input information into study database.
*Write grant applications, protocols, and other amendments for the research study set-up.
*Compile, organize, and analyze study-related data.
*Function as a liaison between the patients, principal investigator, and study collaborators.

The candidate will be required to learn about all aspects of conducting a research study. He/she will also have opportunities to attend conferences and co-author abstracts or manuscripts for publication.
Key Skill Sets Required:
Excellent oral and written communication skills; science related background; research, organizational, and analytical skills a plus. The ideal candidate will be interest in pursuing a career in the health sciences and/or in clinical research and is comfortable committing to a minimum of two years at this position.
