Brain Surgery in the Bush: It’s All in the Mind

The Jefferson Literary and Debating Society is pleased to present the 7th and final speaker of the Spring 2015 Distinguished Speaker Series, Dr. Dilan Ellegala, neurosurgeon and founder of the Madaktari Africa Project.

Dr. Dilan Ellegala is a board-certified neurosurgeon with Centra Neurosurgery Center. He earned his medical degree at the University of Washington, where he also completed his internship in general surgery. He served his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Virginia, followed by a fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base tumor neurosurgery at Harvard University where he served on faculty. Dr. Ellegala served as the Director of Neuro Trauama at Oregon Health and Science University, he was an Assistant Professor and the Director of Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery at the Medical University of South Carolina prior to becoming the Medical Director of the Neurosciences Service line at Centra. He is the founder of the nonprofit Madaktari Africa, which provides training for local medical professionals in Tanzania through its Train Forward model.
