Description/Responsibilities: The Fellows act as liaisons between St. Joseph's Clinic and Medical Missionaries, the Virginia-based organization that founded and supports the Clinic. Their responsibilities include:
- Serving as Medical Missionaries' eyes and ears on the ground;
- Helping coordinate the Clinic's operations;
- Managing many of the Clinic's community health programs including: community health workers, traditional birth assistants, infant malnutrition programs, maternal and child health programs, water purification, and salt iodization;
- Working closely with the clinic staff of doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and local community health committees from each of the six outlying villages to implement and improve health programs.
Eligibility & Qualifications: Open to recent college graduates (including those graduating in Spring 2015) and graduate students with an interest in global health. No specific prior experiences required, but strong applicants will have outstanding academic and extracurricular records, a demonstrated commitment to reducing health disparities worldwide, and some exposure to living or working in a resource poor setting. Conversational knowledge of French or Creole is a plus, but not required. Fellows should be prepared to live in rural, under-developed setting and should be in good health.
