Designed for prehealth students and medical students, the AMSA Training Ground conference at UNC SOM, with a focus on Global Health and Public Health, is an excellent opportunity for networking, gaining knowledge and skills, and building leadership. The AMSA Training Grounds are weekend conferences designed to engage premedical and medical students, through the metaphor of a training ground, in the acquisition, practice, and honing of knowledge and skills necessary for student-led action.
The
morning of the Training Ground will begin with a Team Rally (plenary
session) to set the tone and agenda for the day’s activities. The
morning “drills” – breakout sessions
– give students the opportunity to work with expert facilitators to
learn about some of the issues, challenges, and problems that we face in
healthcare. The afternoon “scrimmages” – the afternoon breakout
sessions – build on the morning conversations by shifting
the students’ focus to applying new ideas, and honing critical skills
in team-based problem solving, communication, and advocacy. Throughout
the Training Ground experience, there are also opportunities for
networking practice, admissions-oriented workshops,
and hands-on clinical drills.
