The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) invites pre-health students to register for the Empowering Future Physicians Conferences (amsa.org/Conferences). Held in October, the fall conferences are being hosted this year by Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine (October 11 - 13) just outside of Philadelphia, PA and Morehouse School of Medicine (October 18 - 20) in Atlanta, GA.
The conference at RowanSOM will feature the theme
of "Innovations in Health Care" - with a focus on innovations in
health care technology, communications, community-building, and education; two
pre-conference symposia will take place on Friday, the 11th: "Innovations
and Medical Professionalism" and "Health Care For All Advocacy."
The
conference at Morehouse School of Medicine will feature the theme of
"Breaking Down Barriers" - with a focus on race, gender, sexuality,
and economics impacting wellness, access, and outcomes; two pre-conference
symposia will take place on Friday, the 18th:
"Gender and Sexual Health Advocacy" and "Structural
Competency: The Social Determinants of
Health." Dr. David Satcher, former US Surgeon General, will give the
conference keynote address.
Both
conferences will feature clinical skills workshops (suture clinics, airway
management, heart sounds, etc.) and professional skills workshops
(communication and interviewing, giving/getting peer feedback, conflict
management, etc.)
