Announcement from AMCAS Regarding “Ready for Review” Status


In a continuing effort to serve our applicants, we are now posting additional application processing information in a variety of locations. On the application sign in page (https://services.aamc.org/AMCAS2_2013/), on the AMCAS Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/amcasinfo), and on the AMCAS Twitter feed (http://www.twitter.com/amcasinfo) applicants can see that applications with the status “Ready for Review” as of a particular date are currently being processed by AMCAS. For instance, information on all three of these sites currently explains that AMCAS is processing applications that reached “Ready for Review” status as of June 10, 2012. Applicants can check the status of their application, as well as the receipt of letters and official transcripts, by logging in to their application and clicking the Details link on the left side of the screen.

NIH Graduate & Professional School Fair


We would like to call to your attention an upcoming event that could be of value to those of your students who are interested in the biomedical sciences.  On July 20, 2012, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will host its 5th NIH Graduate & Professional School Fair.  More than 140 colleges and universities from across the U.S. will be sending representatives of their graduate schools, medical and dental schools, schools of public health, and other biomedically relevant programs to the Fair in hopes of recruiting college students and recent graduates to their programs.  The day will also include workshops on getting to graduate or professional (medical/dental) school; MD/PhD programs; careers in public health, psychology, dentistry, and pharmacy; interviewing successfully, and the NIH postbac program.

Location: Natcher Conference Center on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD

Students who wish to participate must register at https://www.training.nih.gov/gp_fair.  At this site they will also find more detailed information describing the Fair, including a preliminary agenda, a list of participating institutions, detailed directions for getting to the Fair, and suggestions for ensuring successful attendance.  NOTE: there is no charge for attending the Fair.

MD-PhD Panel at the NIH and MD-PhD Panel at the New York Academy of Sciences


On Friday, July 20th there will be a MD-PhD Panel at the NIH which will be streamed live and can be viewed at:

 For those of you in NYC this summer, there will be a wonderful MD-PhD Panel at the New York Academy of Sciences featuring the directors/administrators of the MD-PhD Programs at Einstein, Columbia, NYU and Weill Cornell Medical College.  The event will take place this Thursday, June 28th  at 6 PM.  While the event is free, students/advisors must register in advance.  There will be no registration accepted at the door (sorry).  There is a cap of 200 students for this presentation, and we’ve almost reached that number.  If you are really interested in hearing more about MD-PhD and want to come, please  register ASAP.  To register, please click here.

2012 ADEA Dental School Virtual Fair


Please join the American Dental Education Association and dental schools from across the country at the 2012 ADEA Dental School Virtual Fair. This recruitment event will take place online on June 26th and 27th 2012 and is free to all attendees.  Attendees to the fair will be able to experience
·         Live chat sessions with admissions officers from over 30 dental schools,
·         Brochures and videos about dentistry and the admissions process,
·         Presentations from dental educators,
·         Material from multiple dental education organizations,
·         Networking opportunities with other pre-dental students,
·         Information archiving for future use, and
·         Tips on applying to the centralized application service for dentistry- AADSAS.

College students and advisors are encouraged to attend! The VMCAS Application for 2013 Matriculation will open TODAY by 12:00 Noon Eastern Time!
The VMCAS Application for 2013 matriculation will be available at http://www.aavmc.org/Students-Applicants-and-Advisors/Veterinary-Medical-College-Application-Service.aspx. Veterinary applicants can create an account to begin the application process.
